Anna May Wong, the first Asian American Hollywood film star, was an “exotic” icon. She played the same role over and over again; the Oriental villainous Dragon Lady. The sexualization and alienation of Asian women in old Hollywood is a narrative that often falls short of recognition. In this series, we bring to life the fantasy of a Chinese actress from the 20s…except she isn’t stereotyped as the cliché wicked, treacherous snake. We hope to spark conversation about harmful stereotypes and their lasting impacts to today.
