Inspired by Wong Kar-wai, I wanted to do an out-of-the-box concept during my trip to LA. That was when I thought of bringing a goldfish bowl to the beach. Growing up, I raised these two goldfish for three years. They started in a tiny goldfish bowl before graduating to a tank that sat on the cabinet in the opening hallway. Every morning before school, I would walk past these fish and think about how, they have seen nothing but the view of the stair banister through their tank.
Looking back on it now, I feel like humans are the goldfish. In previous circumstances, I have felt trapped in an environment, in a bubble that surrounded me as there were so many other things going on around me. So symbolically, it’s like little fish meets big fish or the big world.
Everything was sourced from a reuse craft store or thrift store. Editing these photos was honestly very magical and surreal. Surreal to think I was in LA doing a photoshoot when last year, I would’ve been struggling to find an ounce of creativity in me.
