Girl under a Cocktail Umbrella' directly references Ernst Ludwig Kirchner's painting 'Girl under a Japanese Umbrella', one of my favourite paintings. I love Kirchner's style and colour, though his incorporation of Orientalist themes in his work is upsetting and unfortunate. 'Girl under a Cocktail Umbrella' is my attempt to revise his painting by replacing the impossible anatomy, "tribal" figures, and stereotypically Asian item with an accurately thicc body, dancing cats, and a cocktail umbrella
