Private Policy’s Fall Winter 2022 show encapsulated the theme of “Organic Futurism,” through their fluid, genderless streetwear. Designers Haoran Li and Siying Qu base each season on a social topic, with the theme printed on newspaper-outlet, inspired one-sheets distributed at every show. Recalling their spring 2022 show’s, “Urban Plants”, lavender, hunter green, cream, black, and white palette, Private Policy’s “Organic Futurism” continues a thread of sci-fi rooted in nature, including a collaboration capsule with Coca-Cola. Inspired by the sustainability of mushrooms, the utilitarian silhouettes were complemented by fleece, faux shearling, and terry textiles, creating a duality of ultramodern and deconstructed with warm and fuzzy.
From bolero-sleeved slip dresses, giant checker fleece prints, to nylon bomber jackets and workwear cargo pant ensembles, the looks incorporated harness details everywhere, accentuated by tall black or brown boots, silver-framed sunglasses, rhombus-shaped bags, and hair full of shiny hair clips. Experimental accessories comprised of initial key chains made from dehydrated mushroom material and Private Policy's first shoe designs, pleated flats made from zero waste, 3D mold.
Many guests were given goodie bags with mushrooms, and during the show, Korean dancer duo YaHwa composed of Haze Kim and Grace Lee dazzled the audience as they flexed their limbs in mesmerizing fluidity to a chilled beat. Soaked in cerulean blue light, guests became fully absorbed in the soft quality of Private Policy’s envisioned future.
