Raveena’sAsha’s Awakening tour made its final stop at Neumos in the rainy city of Seattle on June 1. The alternative R&B hitmaker teamed up with the PNW(Pacific Northwest)’s very own LIVt to open the magically spectacular show.
LIVt’s passion for music shined brightly as she enchanted the audience with her clever musical infusions of R&B and rap. The LIVt discography highlights a stellar catalog that reflects what it means to be an outspoken Black woman.
The show in itself was a beautiful embodiment of identities and self-image as it relates to artistic outlets. The two came together to bring forth a night of music with high cultural caliber.
Raveena began her set with the hypnotic groove-mover “Mystery” from her latest studio album. Paired with bright magenta, dimmed yellow and orange hues, Raveena brought forth an “awakening” with other lively tracks from her extensive discography throughout the rest of the night. Despite some minor technical difficulties, Raveena demonstrated an extraordinary talent for captivating her audience regardless of these setbacks. From the sleep-inducing vocals on “Bloom,” to the energetic instrumentals on “Secret” featuring Vince Staples, to the healing aura of “Asha’s Kiss” featuring Asha Puthli, Raveena did not take her foot off the gas pedal. She ended the night with the somber “Endless Summer,” which she wrote in the back of a taxi cab with her guitarist during a rough heartbreak.
Asha’s Awakening as mentioned by Raveena herself, took more than four years to craft and create, drawing heavy influences from Hinduism. The body of work not only actively reflects Raveena’s cultural roots but also represents her impact as a South Asian artist making waves in the music industry. Raveena’s Asha’s Awakening tour marks itself at the top of my personal list of concerts I have ever seen. Everything was very carefully curated, from the lighting design to background visuals and tour outfits. Raveena healed my inner soul and it will forever be a night to remember.
